Smith Transport Honors Ronnie Filer As Driver of the Year

May 2018

ROARING SPRING, PA… Smith Transport recently honored Ronnie Filer, a Professional Truck Driver from Cumberland, Maryland, as Smith Transport’s 2017 Driver of the Year.

Ronnie started his driving career in 1990 and has worked at Smith for 20 years now and is very deserving of the award. In 2017 Ronnie drove 145,188 miles for Smith Transport, delivering 290 loads. He is a member of Smith’s “Golden Eagle Million Miler Club” and had a perfect safety score in 2017 with 0 accidents and 0 service failures. His driver manager is Theresa Seidel. During the recognition ceremony Ronnie received 2 jackets, a gift certificate to the company store and a beautiful Driver of the Year Eagle statue.

Ronnie was hired by Tommy Smith in 1998 and started driving a cabover tractor he called “The Batmobile”, a far cry from the Peterbilt 389 he drives today.

In regards to Smith Transport, Ronnie Filer states, “We are all owners of Smith Transport now. If it weren’t for all the things that Barry Smith and the Smith Transport staff do for all of employees, we wouldn’t be here. I am thankful for everything that the folks at Smith Transport have done to help me succeed and thanks to all of you. I am proud of what I do for a living and proud to work at Smith Transport.”

When asked about E:Logs, Ronnie says, “You have to mix the old with the new. You must manage your time and think ahead. Use your sleeper berth time to maximize your driving time. You might be surprised at how many miles you can legally run when you budget your time properly.” Smith Transport has been using ELDs for the past 3 years.

Congratulations to Ronnie Filer, Smith Transport’s 2017 Driver of the Year!
