Easy Like Sunday Morning…

So yeah, I am totally ripping Lionel Ritchie off by using one of his song titles as my column headline. And you will notice that my photos were taken in the late afternoon and at sunset – but they were taken on Sunday…

Yesterday was Father’s Day and it was a whirlwind of a day, starting with the granddaughters and I taking Steve out for breakfast and then a little grocery shopping and a trip up to see my Dad. We finished the day with a cookout at the pond at my daughter and son-in-law’s soon to be new house.

It was a very hot and humid day and I had been on newspaper deadline all week and weekend and I must confess that I felt bone-weary tired. It was great to just kick back and relax. I took a walk around the pond – I encountered a baby groundhog, many toads, heard the geese honking and felt the breeze rustling through the trees. I paused to gaze into the woods and marvel at the trees that were towering over me. The sun was shining and the fluffy white clouds were dancing in the sky. Later my daughter and the girls found a turtle and released her back into the pond. We noshed on delicious food and played and fished. There was waving of sparklers and petting of the goats.

On the way home, traveling back roads, because country back roads are the best way to arrive home, I was treated to a spectacular sunset. Of course I pulled over and took photos. My life might not be adventurous and jet setting. I don’t hang with the country club set. But it’s filled with moments of sheer bliss that is shared with loved ones and I can’t think of anything better.
