Working Show Truck Of The Month – David Tompkins

May 2016

In the trucking industry, owning and driving your own Peterbilt is somewhat of a status symbol. Peterbilt has long been considered the "Cadillac" of all of the trucks out on the interstates and owner operators swear by them for their quality, performance, and rugged, good looks.

Peterbilt introduced a limited edition version of their most popular model at the Mid-America Truck Show back in 2003. The 379X was specifically designed for the owner operators who wanted a truck with a show truck look. The 379X model was show ready right from the factory and was produced until December of 2004.

Our featured Working Show Truck this month just happens to be a Peterbilt 379X that's owned by David Tompkins. David was so impressed with the 379X, that he bought one and planned on keeping it all original, thinking that someday this important piece of Peterbilt history would become a collector's item.

David's truck has been tucked away for many years and only has 3,960 original miles on it. He enjoys showing it off at various local truck shows in PA and his grandson, Jeremy Jones, is usually his co-pilot!

The truck is equipped with a CAT C-15 engine that's paired with an 18-speed transmission and a set of 3:36 rears. Custom features include 7" straight pipes, a chrome Texas style bumper, a stainless drop visor, and polished aluminum full fenders over the rear wheels. The truck also has the signature 379X custom grille and polished front fenders. A polished turbo wing sits on top of the 70" Unibilt UltraCab sleeper that makes David and Jeremy feel right at home while attending the various truck shows

The interior of David's Peterbilt features a brushed aluminum dash, custom 4-spoke X-style steering wheel, and a set of leather UltraRide sides. There's also a chrome shifter and custom base plate complete with 379X logos.

David said he plans on attending more shows in the coming years with his limited edition Peterbilt and he wanted to thank everyone he's met at the shows for all of their positive comments about the truck. His grandson Jeremy is all smiles when it's trophy time and David's number gets called!

Movin' Out would like to salute David Tompkins and his grandson Jeremy Jones for preserving this important piece of Peterbilt history and displaying it for everyone to see.

Congratulations on being our May 2016 Working Show Truck of the Month, we'll see you at the shows this summer!
