Schneider Inducts 24 Drivers into Haul of Fame

May 2016

GREEN BAY, WI… To celebrate the remarkable accomplishment of safely reaching thousands of destinations without a scratch, Schneider, one of the nation’s largest truckload carriers, recently honored its most elite drivers with awards that celebrate career driving milestones. The prestigious recognition consisted of Haul of Fame inductions, Million Mile Driver Awards and Consecutive Safe Driving Year Awards.

The exclusive honor of entrance into Schneider’s Haul of Fame is awarded to drivers who have accumulated 3 million safe driving miles and/or 20 consecutive years of safe driving without an accident or safety infraction. This year, an incredible 24 new inductees met these criteria, joining 225 Schneider Haul of Fame members as the best of the best.

Schneider will install plaques on the Haul of Fame wall, located within the company’s corporate headquarters in Green Bay, Wis., to honor the inductees.

The Million Mile Award was earned by Schneider drivers who join the ranks of 4,928 others throughout Schneider’s history who have transported freight 1 million miles or more and who have remained accident-free while going the distance. The number of drivers reaching million-mile distinctions is as follows:

•102 new 1-Million Mile Award winners

•50 new 2-Million Mile Award winners

•12 new 3-Million Mile Award winners

These new honorees have driven the accident-free equivalent to going up and down Mt. Everest approximately 51,363,636 times. Through all seasons and storms, at all sorts of elevations and inclines, Schneider drivers remain focused on safety.

For Bounlieng Nobouphasavanh, a 3-million mile Schneider driver, preparation is key to safe travels. Nobouphasavanh says he is meticulous about his pre-trip inspections. “Once you’re behind the wheel, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times,” he advises other drivers. “Never let up! You have to be vigilant.”

In addition, Schneider is also honoring 134 professional drivers who have remained accident-free for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35 years. This year’s Consecutive Safe Years Driving Award winners include:

•76 new 10-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honorees

•33 new 15-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honorees

•16 new 20-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honorees

•6 new 25-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honorees

•2 new 30-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honorees

•1 new 35-year Consecutive Safe Years Driving honoree

Mark De Sotel, who received the 35-year Consecutive Safe Drivers Award, acknowledges that the key to avoiding accidents is to remain aware of one’s surroundings at all times. “Don’t take unnecessary risks,” De Sotel instructs other drivers. “Instead, slow down and focus on predicting what the people in front of you, beside you and behind you are going to do next before they actually do it.”

“The recognition earned by these professional drivers is validation that our ‘Safety First and Always’ culture and mindset are strong at work,” said Tom DiSalvi, vice president of safety and driver training at Schneider. “To think that we have 5,106 drivers in our history who have driven at least one million consecutive miles safely is really incredible.”

The company will host 14 banquets across North America this spring to recognize new Haul of Fame inductees as well as all those receiving the Million Mile Awards and Consecutive Safe Years Driving Awards.
