Area Transportation- A Steel Solid Company

June 2021

Chesterton, IN… Since 1978, Area Transportation has employed the Midwest’s most elite steel haulers. Area Transportation is the trucking arm of the ADS Logistics, Co LLC a full-service metals logistics provider offering both trucking and warehousing throughout the Midwest and South.

Area Transportation was purchased by Odyssey Logistics and Technology Corporation in 2014, to partner with a growing international logistics provider expanding our services. Recruiting and Relations Manager Amanda Ritter stated, “Area Transportation is a fun place to work. With 175 trucks in our fleet, when you are one of our drivers, you are part of the family. Everyone here is accessible to our drivers.”

Area Transportation’s President Bill Ritter has been with the company for over 30 years and started as a dispatcher. He prides himself on the growth of Area and is committed to the company’s mission of safety, service, and professionalism. He believes the drivers are the core of the company and always has his door open to listen to driver concerns and is personally involved in the development and success of Area drivers.

The Area Transportation Fleet consists of new Kenworth W900’s and 389 Peterbilt’s in their signature cherry red. The Area trailer fleet consists of 5-axle, open-flat, Conestoga, and Michigan Trains. This allows Area drivers to maximize their loads for bigger pay with less trips. Area hauls out of the Northwest Indiana Steel Mills for regional delivery. Area drivers are highly qualified to handle over-sized, over-weight, and over-dimensional loads.

Area Drivers are highly compensated for their unique skill set. Professional drivers deserve professional pay. Area contractors earn up to 80% of the line haul, 100% of accessorial charges, 100% of the fuel surcharge, and receive a fuel rebate. Contractors can rent trailers from the company at a low cost. Area company drivers earn between 27-32% of the line haul, often averaging over $1,500 per week. Company drivers are provided with health, vision, dental, disability, and life insurance. They are also eligible to take part in a 401K match. Area is committed to the success and growth of their drivers by providing continued training and lease purchase opportunities. Both company and contractors can earn a yearly performance and revenue bonus.

Most Area drivers get home nightly, depending on the lanes they run and where they live. The other amazing benefit, unlike van carriers, steel haulers are on a Union Shop schedule, meaning they are always off on weekends and holidays. Area drivers can make a substantial living and maintain a healthy home/work life balance.

With businesses clamoring for trucks and the market tilting in favor of drivers, Area Transportation is a great opportunity for steel haulers to join a premier carrier and take a slice of their top-tier rates. Area Transportation is seeking experienced steel haulers with two years over the road and one year steel hauling experience. If you enjoy the challenge of hauling steel, Area Transportation is the company for you. For more information, call 855.400.6939 or apply online at Drive4area.com.
