Working Show Truck Of The Month - Eric Tombarello

By Robert Conrad

The license plate on this month's Working Show Truck reads "SCRAP 1."  While the plate may give you some idea of the cargo it hauls, it definitely doesn't describe the truck!  This 2007 Peterbilt 379 roll-off is one classy scrap hauler that shines like a diamond among the piles of scrap metal and building debris that it rolls in and out of on a daily basis.  It's owned and driven by Eric Tombarello, who operates Tombarello & Sons Inc. based in Windham, NH.

Tombarello & Inc. is a family-owned, full-service recycling company that was started back in 1952 by Eric's dad, Scott Tombarello.

The Tombarellos are dedicated to providing unmatched service in demolition operations, site development, and overall recycling project management.  The company has grown over the years and is a winning combination of state of the art equipment along with the best field and office personnel in the recycling industry today.  They currently service companies, manufacturers, and contractors across the East Coast in all of the New England states as well as NY and NJ. Tombarello & Sons Inc. is committed to quality pollution prevention through their development of new asset recovery and recycling programs.  As a result of their efforts, they have become the "One Stop" solution for the demolition and recycling needs of both small and large business.

Their 2007 Peterbilt is the pride and joy of Eric Tombarello and it is always sparkling thanks to all of Eric's hard work.  The truck has 165,000 miles on it and works every day.  It's a combination of show and go with plenty of power thanks to the CAT 475 engine and 8LL transmission.  The truck is outfitted with 20K fronts and 52K rears.  The sharp looking blue and white paint combination is offset by just the right amount of "bling".  Up front there's a square cut Valley Chrome bumper, a louvered grille, and a set of JJ single headlights.  The truck also sports a painted "Gangsta" visor, 8" bullhorn exhaust tips, and ETC custom stainless battery boxes and steps.  A set of matching blue & white full fenders sits over the rear wheels that are tricked-out with 24.5" spinners.  The truck is also equipped with an Accurate Hoist system as well as a Pioneer Cover-All system complete with a matching blue & white tarp.  A set of train horns, painted to match the truck's fenders, lets everyone know that Eric is coming and a number of led lights make the truck shine at night.  Lastly, there is a custom Rockwood interior equipped with a set of Bostrom "Lowrider" seats.

At only 29 years old, Eric has already been driving for over 10 years.  He said that he wanted to thank a number of people but, first and foremost, was his dad Scott Tombarello.  Eric said that his dad has spent his whole life in trucking and taught him everything that he knows.  Without him, Eric said that he wouldn't be in such a classy ride.  As far as the truck goes, he credits Heritage Paint in Londonderry, NH, the gang at Berube's Truck Accessories in Bow, NH, and Universal Signworks in Manchester, NH for the great lettering job. Eric also wanted to say thank you to Tony Bonnano for all of his great work in the shop as well Ray Hebert, from M&S Components, for his outstanding welding and fabrication work on the truck.

Eric said that his most memorable experience with the truck thus far came back in 2008.  He spent an entire week getting the truck ready for its first big truck show, The U.S. Diesel Truck Nationals in Englishtown, NJ.  Three days of polishing went right out the window as Eric drove thru a heavy rainstorm to get to the show.  Fortunately the bank next to his hotel had an ATM with a 13'6" roof and they were kind enough to let him re-polish the truck under the ATM.  It all paid off the following day as the Tombarellos took home a 3rd place trophy among some stiff local NY/NJ competition in the roll-off class at the show.

Eric Tombarello and the entire Tombarello & Sons family take a great deal of pride in giving their customers the best possible service and also in delivering the scrap in style to the recycling yards.  Congratulations for being chosen as the Movin' Out Working Show Truck for July 2010.
