Kenworth Summer Activities Feature Special Olympics, Northwest Harvest and Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks

September 2018

KIRKLAND, WA… Kenworth employees at the company’s headquarters in Kirkland, Washington, have been busy this summer giving back to their community by volunteering at the National Special Olympics in Seattle, raising money for Northwest Harvest to help feed the hungry in the state, and participating with three trucks in the local Fourth of July Parade.

2018 Special Olympics USA Games

Seattle hosted the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, which featured 14 team and individual sports during six days in early July. More than 4,000 athletes and coaches representing 50 state Programs and the District of Columbia were supported by more than 15,000 volunteers. Nearly 50 Kenworth employees and their family members served as volunteers at both the tennis and volleyball competitions on the University of Washington campus. PACCAR was the official sponsor of both competitions. According to the Games’ organizers, total attendance surpassed 100,000 people.

Northwest Harvest Fundraiser

Kenworth employees in Kirkland raised nearly $19,000 in support of the Northwest Harvest Fight Child Hunger program. Donations were generated through the combination of a fundraising competition among employee teams and company activities, which included a lunch time barbecue.

The donation enabled Northwest Harvest to provide over 85,000 meals, representing more than 110,000 pounds of food, to feed hungry children during the summer months when school meal programs are not active. Northwest Harvest can feed a family of three with a nutritious meal for just 67 cents.

The organization is the only nonprofit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington, with a network of 375 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. Northwest Harvest distributed 24 million meals last year in serving every county in the state.

Kirkland Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks Show

Kenworth was the official sponsor of the annual Kirkland Fireworks Show, and also entered three Kenworth trucks in the city’s Fourth of July parade. An orange T880 day cab with flatbed trailer, blue T880 dump truck with decorated dump body and a green T370 with a world globe on a flatbed trailer were accompanied by 60 Kenworth employees and family members, who walked or rode on the parade route through downtown Kirkland.
