by Robert E. Harris Tomorrow Is The Devil's Word |
My sons, be not negligent for the Lord hath chosen you to stand before Him. It was on the high sea where a man of war was sailing, a storm was on and one of the cannons had somehow gotten loose in the pit. Man after man had gone down into the pit to see if he could station the cannon, only to leave their bodies ground under its wheels. Finally the chief gunner entered the pit and with his stick, he brought the cannon to a stop, stationed it, and everyone cheered. The captain of the ship said, "Bring him out of the pit, decorate him for his bravery and then shoot him for his negligence, for it was he who had left the cannon unattached." Negligence is a terrible thing. Neglect not your salvation. Jesus taught against putting things off. That's how it is in your life. We are prone to put things away. We should give diligence to living and upright and honest life. If I was the devil and wanted to take you to hell, I would say, "You need to be a good person. You need to be born again. You need to read the Bible. You need to quit your mean ways – tomorrow." By getting you to put it off, I could bind you and pitch you into the pit and into the fire. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Tomorrow is the devil's word. Today is the day of salvation.
