A. Duie Pyle Celebrates Expansion With Opening Of Northborough Service Center
|
NORTHBOROUGH, MA… A. Duie Pyle, the Northeast's premier transportation and logistics provider, held a celebration of its expanding capabilities in Massachusetts with the recent opening of the company's newest and largest Service Center in Northborough. A special event for local customers and dignitaries was held on Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4. According to A. Duie Pyle Chairman and Owner Peter Latta, the decision to build the new Northborough Service Center was based on a need for expanded capabilities, at a site where additional growth could be accommodated. While the company had operated a Service Center in nearby Webster, Mass., building a new state-of-the-art facility in Northborough was viewed as a more efficient way to maintain and enhance customer service. "Building a new facility provided opportunities to create an infrastructure to better serve our customers,"Latta noted. "The Northborough location brings us closer to our markets, and it is ideally situated for easy access to U.S. Rt. 495 and the Massachusetts Turnpike." A. Duie Pyle's new Service Center incorporates features and technologies designed to better serve customers, assure security, save energy and protect the environment. The new Northborough Service Center, combined with a second new facility opening in Johnston, RI, represents a $30M capital investment for the company. The Service Center currently features 121 doors for loading and unloading trailers, with room for an additional expansion up to 165 doors. A separate building houses a truck and trailer maintenance shop, and an automatic drive-thru truckwash. Ceiling heights in the Service Center have been raised from the traditional 14-ft. height to 21-ft. to accommodate racking systems for shipment storage. According to A. Duie Pyle Terminal Manager Michael Zaccaria, "The racking system will enable us to safely store our customer's products for short periods of time to accommodate customers working with Just-In-Time inventory systems. It lets us hold the freight and deliver it exactly when the customer needs it." A proprietary QUALCOMM satellite tracking system, used in Northborough and throughout A. Duie Pyle operations, offers real-time communication between drivers, dispatchers and customers, further enhancing the company's Just-in-Time delivery capabilities. The security of freight and facilities, and the safety of employees, was also a consideration in constructing the Northborough Service Center. The site is fully gated and remotely monitored 24/7 by a third-party security service for fire and burglar protection. The security system also includes a direct digital link to the Northborough Fire Department and the buildings are fully protected with wet and dry fire suppression sprinkler systems. Energy efficient systems have been installed for lighting, heat and air conditioning. Interior and exterior lights are controlled by motion detectors and photo cells and the buildings are heated and cooled by an HVAC system that can be controlled off-site from the company headquarters in West Chester, Pa. Despite what many considered a poor economic environment, A. Duie Pyle is committed to continued growth. The Northborough Service Center is one of two new facilities planned by the company in 2008. The second will open later this Spring in Johnston, Rhode Island. "We're investing for the future," notes Peter Latta. "We have a great team, and a reputation for a high reliability service. With our locations, facilities and technologies, we can better serve customers following Just-In-Time practices. We will continue to build our tools and infrastructure so that we can continue to serve our customers well." Headquartered in West Chester, Pa., A. Duie Pyle, Inc. is the Northeast's premier transportation and logistics provider, with extended service coverage into the Southeast, Midwest and Canada. A family-owned and operated business for more than 80 years, the company provides a complete range of transportation and distribution services. A. Duie Pyle operates 15 Service Centers, strategically located throughout the region.
