Jerold Smith Named E.W. Wylie 2011 Independent Contractor of the Year
E.W. Wylie Corporation recently named Jerold Smith as its 2011 Independent Contractor of the Year. Smith was chosen for this prestigious award out of hundreds of other E.W. Wylie operators throughout the country. To be considered eligible, independent contractors are evaluated on number of miles, claims, out of service and traffic violations and outstanding character. “It was a big surprise to me when I was told I had been named Independent Contractor of the Year,” said Smith. “I was very proud and thankful for the honor.”
After starting his trucking career in 2007, Smith came to E.W. Wylie in 2010 as a company driver before entering the lease purchase program. “I knew I wanted to own my own truck one day but wasn’t sure when I’d be able to do it,” he says. “The opportunity came up at Wylie and I decided to take advantage of it. Now, less than two years later, I own my truck and am Operator of the Year. That’s pretty great.”
Smith says he came to E.W. Wylie on the recommendation of a friend who was a company driver with the carrier. “My friend went through the lease program as well,” he says. “I would recommend it to any driver who wants to own their truck and is willing to work at it. Flatbedding is hard work but it’s worth it.”
In business for more than 70 years, E.W. Wylie has one of the best owner operator settlement packages in the industry. Operators average 2,500 miles weekly on trips of approximately 1,300 miles in length. There is no forced dispatch and owner operators are able to choose their home time. Company trailers and fuel cards are provided free.
New regional and dedicated runs are available now. For more information about careers at E.W. Wylie, please visit www.wylietrucking.com or call 800-437-4132.
