TMC - Destination Excellence

By Steve Pollock
DE MOINES, IA… In 1972 Harrold Annett purchased a dormant trucking company, The Mickow Corporation. TMC, which stands for The Mickow Corporation was born. The company’s first load of flatbed freight was delivered by Wally Harrah from Chicago to Des Moines, Iowa on March 6 of 1972 and TMC has been heading to “Destination Excellence” ever since.
TMC has grown to be recognized as one of the nation’s premier flatbed carriers. The company has become known for its integrity, innovation, highly trained drivers and impeccably maintained equipment. TMC hauls flatbed freight exclusively with a limited amount of specialized and O.D. freight. The company is headquartered on a 50-acre campus in Des Moines, Iowa. The campus contains a state-of-the-art training and maintenance facility as well as Black and Chrome Truck Sales. Out on the road TMC is known for their signature black Peterbilt tractors that always look like new and are kept spotlessly clean.
TMC is pleased to announce that the company will receive delivery of 1,500 new Peterbilt model 579 and 200 Peterbit 388 tractors starting now through the next two years. The new 579 trucks feature Peterbilt’s new ergonomically advance cab with more room in the cab and bunk, additional space between the seats for easier access, convertible work space and a larger windshield for improved visibility. The Peterbilts will be spec’d with Cummins ISX engines and are Peterbilt’s most aerodynamically advanced trucks, designed around fuel efficiency. The new 579s will also be equipped with the latest technologies, including the widest use of LED lights. The Petes will have new Qualcomm systems with Mobil Comm, which includes communications, navigation and internet service as well as paperless logs. The tractors will also have Bendix Wingman® Collision Mitigation Systems and Cummins Road Relay Road Service.
TMC is extremely proud to be a participant in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “Hiring Our Heroes” program. The program is a win-win for both TMC and veterans. Veterans get assistance through a VA approved apprentice program as part of the GI Education Benefits Bill. The program helps vets to draw on the financial resources of their VA benefits while learning to drive a commercial vehicle and obtain their CDL.. TMC’s goal is to hire 500 veterans by 2014. The company has always been proactive in hiring veterans. Currently 30% of TMC’s trucks are driven by veterans. TMC values veterans’ discipline, organization and structure. Veterans have a good work ethic and a sense of personal responsibility – both important attributes in a time sensitive business. That is why the company hires them whenever possible. TMC wants to welcome our veterans home not only with respect and appreciation but also with a job if they would like to become Professional Truck Drivers.
TMC will also be issuing special decals in November to all veterans driving one of their trucks. The decals will signify the driver as a vet and also designates the branch of the service in which they served.
There are many opportunities at TMC for Professional Truck Drivers. Whether you are a student or an experienced driver, the company has a position for you. Drivers can choose between mileage based or percentage pay. However, 80% of TMC drivers opt for percentage pay, so as the rates go up, so does their paycheck. TMC’s pay package is designed to reward top performers and entry-level drivers are included, many have the ability to be earning top wages within a short amount of time after joining the company.
TMC drivers who live within the company’s hiring area are home most weekends. The average TMC driver gets home 46 out of 52 weekends a year, unless they choose to stay out.
No matter where a TMC truck is heading, the destination is always excellence. It is a quality that TMC uses in every endeavor that the company undertakes from their services to their drivers and their equipment. If you would like to set a course for an excellent career with an excellent company, give TMC a call at 877-417-0750 or log onto www.tmctrans.com. TMC has a new Peterbilt waiting for YOU.
