Mid-America Moments: Lyle Cummins Attends The 2013 Mid-America Trucking Show
By Steve Pollock
LOUISVILLE, KY… It was a singular honor to meet Mr. Lyle Cummins, son of Cummins engine inventor Clessie Cummins at the Cummins booth at the Mid-America Trucking Show this past March 21st. Lyle brought his father’s 1936 Cadillac, which is equipped with a Model A Cummins diesel engine, which was displayed at the Cummins booth.
Lyle Cummins, who holds an engineering degree from Stanford University, helped his father Clessie develop a diesel engine control device to retard the engine. This device later became known as the “Jake Brake.”
Lyle is an authority on diesel engine history and is also the author of four books about the history and development of the diesel engine.
