G&D Integrated – Providing Transportation Services For Over 100 Years

By Steve Pollock
MORTON, IL… For over 100 years members of the O’Neill family have been serving Central Illinois with freight cartage, freight transfers and storage services. G&D Integrated is the culmination of those 100 years of transportation experience coupled with the consolidation of three companies, each with a distinct transportation service niche.
Truckload carrier G&D Transportation was formed in 1984, with sister company CDO Distribution following just a few years later to accommodate cross docking operations. A third company (Specialized Process Services) was formed to serve as a transportation logistics provider for the handling of numerous manufacturing processes. In 2005 all three companies were consolidated to form G&D Integrated, allowing the implementation of all services with greater speed and efficiency. The newly formed G&D Integrated also provided seamless services to freight customers requiring special logistical needs.
Presently G&D Integrated moves about 1,100 shipments of freight every day. The company is divided into two distinct divisions consisting of Dedicated Truckload and Intermodal. G&D’s Dedicated Truckload Division, headquartered in Morton, IL, serves four primary customers, the largest of which is Caterpillar, along with Mitsubishi, Komatsu and Bon Ton. The freight moves 24/7 and is hauled nearly exclusively by company equipment. G&D has about 190 company owned late model IH, Volvo and Freightliner tractors in the fleet. 250 Professional Drivers in the Truckload operation rotate their driving time to allow the freight to keep constantly moving. The primary operational area is the Midwest and Southeast. A combination of curtainside trailers, stepdecks, vans and flatbeds are in use to service dedicated truckload customers. The company hauls primarily parts used in the manufacture of heavy equipment. This operation is regional and short haul with no overnight runs for drivers on dedicated lanes. OTR drivers get home every weekend.
G&D Integrated also operates a unique intermodal division. It is unique because the company owns nearly all of the equipment, including power units and around 500 chassis. Intermodal operations serve both import and export freight for companies such as John Deere and Komatsu. The Intermodal Division employs 135 company drivers and has a strong presence in the Chicago, IL and Charleston, SC areas. Intermodal operations are headquartered in Channahon, IL with drop yards in Wilmington, NC, Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. While the intermodal freight is predominately short haul, there are some regional hauls as well. About half of the intermodal drivers are home every night and the regional drivers are home every weekend.
At present G&D Integrated has career opportunities available for 25 drivers in the Truckload Division that are located in or between Chicago, Morton and Decatur, IL. The company is also hiring drivers in the Intermodal Division in the following cities: Joliet has 12 jobs available; Morton, IL has 2 positions; and Wilmington, NC needs 5 additional drivers. Drivers located anywhere in the states of Indiana and Illinois may be considered for hire. G&D does require at least 100,000 miles driving within the past year or 2 years of verifiable experience. A Class A CDL and Hazmat endorsement are required for both divisions and a TWIC card is required for Intermodal drivers in the Southeast only. G&D drivers can expect to make good earnings with plenty of work and great hometime. As the company grows to accommodate additional freight volumes, other driving opportunities will develop as well.
