Donaldson Powercore® Technology – The Industry Leader In Air Filtration
With over 13 million PowerCore® filter units sold, and hundreds of programs won since its rollout in 2001, Donaldson Company), a leading worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems and parts, continues to deliver industry-leading performance to first-fit and aftermarket users worldwide. This important Donaldson filtration technology continues to revolutionize air filtration for the heavy-duty transportation and off-road equipment markets.
“PowerCore technology continues to be the industry leader in air filtration,” said Andrew Dahlgren, General Manager of the Engine Air Products business unit at Donaldson. “With the introduction of our original PowerCore filter in 2001, our customers raved about its performance. When PowerCore G2 technology hit the market in 2008, the smaller size and mutlipe configurations gave our customers more options to meet their filtration needs. Today, with over 13 million units sold, our OEM and aftermarket customers continue to look to Donaldson for innovative air filtration technologies that will improve their engine intake performance. They know when we say ‘Donaldson Delivers,’ we will.”
More streamlined designs, stricter exhaust emissions regulations and increased horsepower drove the demand for the initial introduction of Donaldson PowerCore air filtration technology over a decade ago. Introduced as an alternative to conventional, larger-sized filters, PowerCore’s straight-through airflow design and high-density filtration reduces system restriction and extends filter life, reducing overall maintenance costs. Its compact, metal-free, cartridge-style design, which is 40 percent smaller than conventional cellulose filters, traps contaminants inside its structure for cleaner and easier servicing.
In 2008, Donaldson introduced PowerCore G2 technology, the company’s second generation of the industry-leading air filter. Even smaller – 30 percent smaller than the original PowerCore filter – PowerCore G2 further optimizes underhood space and offers OEMs more flexibility in configuring air induction systems. Additionally, PowerCore filter’s blue color, variety of shapes and different mounting options offer considerable differentiation from conventional filters. When this filter hit the global marketplace, OEMs were given an array of configuration options to meet their design specifications.
“While offering users more options for underhood placement with its smaller, compact size is important,” continued Dahlgren, “where PowerCore’s ‘rubber meets the road’ is in the filter media. With designs that include our our proprietary Ultra-Web® filter media, PowerCore has industry leading filtration efficiency on submicron contamination which extends the service life of the filter and provides better overall engine protection.”
Ultra-Web media is manufactured using a proprietary electrospinning process, which causes submicron contaminants such as dust and soot to load on the surface rather than disperse throughout the depth of the filter media where pores can quickly clog. Extensive lab testing has shown that Ultra-Web provides higher initial efficiency, which is important for engine protection, and extends filter life, which reduces equipment operating costs.
