23rd Annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Convoy

By Pam Pollock, Editor
It goes without saying that Professional Truck Drivers and their families are some of the most generous and kind-hearted individuals. This has never been more apparent for the past 23 years as these Knights of the Highways have generously given up their valuable home time to spend Mother’s Day participating in the annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Convoy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The Convoy began in 1990 as a wish of a brother and sister wanting to take a ride in a Big Rig and talk on the CB radio. So many drivers wanted to grant this wish that volunteers soon realized that many MAW children could join in the fun. The very first Convoy was 43 trucks. From this humble beginning, the Convoy has grown by leaps and bounds, setting the Guinness World Record in 2003 for “The World’s Longest Truck Convoy” with 288 trucks. The Convoy continued to grow and broke their own record the very next year with 391 trucks.
This year’s Make-A-Wish Mother’s Convoy featured 366 trucks. The event featured kids games, a live auction, music, great food and much more. For more information visit www.makeawishtruckconvoy.org, email: convoy@philadelphia.wish.org or phone 717-295-6684.
