Driver Aaron Courtney Finds Success With Watkins Lease Purchase Program
Aaron Courtney, Sr. became a professional driver in 2007 after a career in the mining industry. Courtney had been laid off from his job and wanted to find something that would offer him stability.
“I chose my first job with one trucking company because they had a new driver’s program and I knew I needed to gain some experience first,” explains Courtney. “What I really wanted to do was own my own truck at some point.”
Courtney, who lives in Winter Haven, Fla., worked towards that goal by joining up with Watkins Family of Companies as a lease purchase driver in the fall of 2011. He chose Watkins because of the company’s no-money-down lease purchase program and its state-of-the-art equipment. Courtney completed his lease purchase last month with help from everything Watkins offers its drivers.
“Watkins made the lease purchase affordable, unlike other companies out there who wanted a whole lot of money down that I didn’t have,” says Courtney. “Watkins wants you to be a success, so they have the whole program set up to help you succeed.”
The company’s lease purchase program allows drivers to choose between two options depending on what works best for them. Watkins also offers its lease purchase drivers an excellent maintenance program, quarterly updates to help drivers see where they’re losing and gaining money and access to the company’s financial system that helps drivers keep track of and organize fuel costs, settlement statements and anything else needed for their annual taxes.
“It was hard – don’t get me wrong – but I was determined to make it,” adds Courtney. “It feels great to accomplish something you set out to do. I plan to buy additional trucks in the future with the lease purchase program at Watkins so I can really set up a successful small business.”
Courtney is currently assigned to a route that takes him up to Atlanta, Ga., and back, allowing him time at home every other day. He and his wife have six children, four grandchildren and one on the way. Courtney credits much of his success to the support of his wife and to everything Watkins does for its drivers.
“They’re not just giving you a truck and leaving you on your own,” he says. “There’s no other company out there that will do more for you to help you be a successful owner operator.”
