Million Mile Mama - Patty Brodeur
By Heather Hogeland
This month I have chosen Women In Trucking member Mary Patricia Brodeur (Patty) to be our million-mile mama. Patty is a single lady, an owner-operator leased to HVH Transportation out of Commerce City, Colorado.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Patty has lived in the United States since she was 2 years of age. She currently lives in Elizabeth, Colorado on a 60-acre ranch called the ‘By-Chance Ranch’.
Patty became a truck driver back in 1995 when she and her husband decided to take their mutual love of travel and make a living doing it. She comes from a family of truck drivers with an uncle, a cousin and a brother who are drivers, so the transition was an easy choice for her.
She was recently awarded a 2 million mile safe driving award at the ‘Salute To Women Behind The Wheel’ event in Louisville, Ky. during the Mid America Truck show.
Patty travels with her two miniature schnauzers, Ernie and Rudy and runs all over the country. She became a widow in 2000 when her beloved husband Dennis passed away as the result of an accident. She decided at that time to continue in the industry she loved, buying her own truck in December of 2002 and leased it on to HVH. She loves her company and has no desire to go anywhere else.
Patty is truly an incredible woman, an inspiration to those who are blessed enough to have her in their lives, so I felt it was appropriate to name her as this month’s ‘million mile mama’. If you get lucky enough to run across her on the road in her red and black Peterbilt, be sure to say hey to her. You will find she is a very pleasant and positive woman, happy to talk to everybody.
Congratulations Patty on your accomplishments! We are very proud of you!
