Working Show Truck Of The Month – Tristan & Nancy Vaughan/Grizzly Mountain Trucking
By Robert Conrad
As we move into February, many parts of the country are dealing with Old Man Winter's annual dose of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Our February Working Show Truck of the month hails from Groton, Vermont, where they are all too familiar with the "joys" associated with each passing winter! Thanks to the efforts of its owners, Tristan and Nancy Vaughan, this 2014 Western Star sparkles no matter what season it might be.
Tristan pulls a 2006 Wilkins walking floor trailer with his "shining Star" and hauls timber and mulch on a daily basis. He operates Grizzly Mountain Trucking and his Western Star is as powerful as a grizzly bear thanks to the 550 CAT engine that's paired with an 18-speed transmission and a set of full 46 rears.
Tristan's truck started life as a glider kit but he's transformed it into a showstopper thanks to a long list of custom features. The first thing that catches your eye is the brilliant orange and black paint combination, which was inspired by Tristan and Nancy's other passion, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. In fact, they just happen to have a Harley that matches their Western Star.
Some of the custom features on the truck include a painted visor, painted fuel tanks with polished straps, and a custom bull bar up front. There's also a custom headache rack to protect the cab, a set of Minimizer fenders over the rears, and LED lights all around to keep the truck shining at night. The Harley-Davidson paint scheme continues right under the hood, as the CAT engine is painted H/D orange rather than the standard CAT yellow. When we photographed Tristan, Nancy, and their impressive timber-hauler, they were even dressed to match the truck with their Harley Davidson attire.
Tristan said that his most memorable experience has been customizing his truck just the way we wanted to do it. He sent a big thanks out to McDevitt Trucks Inc., especially their Lancaster location, for selling him the truck and all of their help. Tristan said he likes the power and reliability that comes with a Western Star and it's capable of handling all types of extreme conditions associated with hauling timber and mulch in the Northeast. When he's not trucking, Tristan enjoys riding his "other" Harley Davidson with Nancy and they attend local truck shows when time allows.
One thing's for certain, Tristan and Nancy Vaughan's Western Star is always shining bright whether it's in the woods or on the interstate! Congratulations to the Vaughans and their Western Star for making Movin' Out's February 2014 edition a little bit brighter with their Working Show truck of the Month!
