Wishes On Wheels Convoy Rolls A Lucky 13!
By Robert Conrad
The Wishes On Wheels Convoy celebrated 13 fantastic years on September 16,2012. Each year this event makes wishes come true for the children of the Connecticut Make-A-Wish Foundation and the 2012 version brought smiles to the faces of all of the kids that got to ride in their favorite trucks taking place in the convoy. Event founder Keith Herzig and a dedicated group of volunteers have turned this charity event into one of the biggest in the country over the past 13 years, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut would like to thank them for all of their efforts and for all of the money that's been raised on behalf of the children.
Trucks began lining up for the convoy before the sun even came up and the FedEx terminal parking lot in Willington, CT was filled with over 300 trucks by the time the convoy rolled out onto the highway. A state police escort team brought the convoy back safely and everyone enjoyed a family-oriented day of activities at the show. The 2012 event featured the ever-popular monster truck rides by the "Extinguisher" monster truck team. There was a carnival-like atmosphere for all of the kids in attendance featuring a number of games, face painting, horse rides, and even a chance to sit in the FedEx racecar. The drivers shined their trucks to compete for a number of trophies and there were quite a few lucky winners in the huge raffle at day's end, which featured too many great prizes to list.
This event has proven to be fun for the entire family as well as a great fundraiser for an organization that does so much for local families dealing with seriously ill children. Keith Herzig and his crew, as well as all of the generous truck drivers who participated, all deserve a big thumbs up for making the 2012 Wishes On Wheels Convoy & Truck Show a huge success! Making kids smile is one of life's top priorities and this event does that year after year. Make plans to attend the 2013 event, which should be bigger and better if that's possible!
