Line 1 Adventures: Colorado I-70 Rest Area = Fantastic
The Glenwood Canyon rest area at MM 118 on the west side of Colorado is one of the most beautiful rest areas in the nation. There is truck parking here for truckers going east or west.
This rest area is beside the Colorado River in the Glenwood Canyon with easy access to the riverbanks and offers the ability to sit on one of the many rocks and enjoy the scenery. The "No Name" rest also has access to the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path, which is on my bucket list to walk.
The path is 16.3 miles long and can be used by bikers, skaters, walkers, and disabled visitors. The canyon walls in places can rise as high as 1300' above the Colorado River. Glenwood Canyon is considered one of the most scenic natural features along the interstate highways. In many places there are plaques explaining the scenery and also the many nuances of the Colorado River.
The well maintained and from what I have seen concrete path meanders beside the river, over a few bridges and through the beautiful canyon. During the winter the path is often impassible due to snow and in the spring the river is often as high or higher then the path.
When ever possible when traveling on I-70 this is a great rest area to take our half hour rest break and get out and walk. For me it is a way to feel rejuvenated and relaxed after listening to the sounds of the river.
