TOMAH, WI… There are very few women tractor pullers on the National Tractor Pulling Association circuit. Julia Conny is the only woman puller in her class. Julia and her father Mike Conny could very well be the only father/daughter team in the NTPA. The Connys are members of the “MACDADDY Pulling Team”, operating John Deere Pulling Tractors, the same brand of farm tractors that they have used for many years on their 1,500 acre farm. The Connys raise beef cattle and grain.
Mike and Julia began pulling at local fairs when Julia was just 16 years old. They are now in their 5th season. The Connys have been traveling all over the country, competing in the NTPA Grand National Pulling competitions. We caught up to them at the Tomah, Wisconsin NTPA Tractor Pulls that took place in conjunction with the 2013 Shell SuperRigs® competition. Julia is currently 3rd in the point standings in her class and finished 5th overall in 2012. Mike finished 9th in his class in 2012.
Julia pulls with a 8410 model John Deere tractor rated at 1,200 hp in the Super Farm 9,300# weight class. Mike competes in the Pro Stock 10,000 weight class with his 8410 model John Deere rates at 3,000 hp. Both Mike and Julia are sponsored by MAC Trailers of Alliance, Ohio, of which Mike is President and Owner.
Mike Conny grew up on the family dairy farm in Alliance. As a young man Mike learned to weld trailers at a local trailer manufacturer. In 1993 when he was 26 years Mike established MAC Trailers in a one bay garage with a $1,000 loan from his mother. He has since grown the company to annual gross sales of over 23 million dollars.
Today MAC Trailers has over 1,000 employees and built over 4,000 trailers in 2012. MAC specializes in of all types of Aluminum Dump Trailers, Aluminum Flatbed and Drop Deck trailers, Steel Dumps, Waste Transfer trailers, Straight Body trucks, Pneumatic Dry Bulk tanks, Liquid Tank trailers, New and Used Trailer sales, Trailer Service Repair and Full Turn Key Trailer and Tank Aftermarket Parts Department. MAC is the trailer of choice for many haulers that compete in truck show competitions.
At the NTPA Tomah competition Mike placed 2nd in the Pro Stock Class. Unfortunately inclement weather on Sunday, June 23rd cancelled Julia’s Super Farm Class.
We at Movin’ Out would like to wish the very best of luck to both Julia and Mike as they compete in the NTPA Circuit this summer.
