Longtime Trucker Buddy Leader Passes Away
Darrell Hicks, a longtime Trucker Buddy supporter and industry professional passed away peacefully at his California home on July 10, 2012. Hicks served the trucking industry for many years and was an original board member of Trucker Buddy in 1992 as it first became an official 501.c.3 organization. He became so interested in the program he asked if he could be the first non-driver to mentor a class in Arkansas while he traveled on his sales job. Hicks would coordinate with other drivers to bring their truck to his class visits and thrilled the students with educational post cards from all across the country.
After Hicks completed his board term he became the founding member of the Advisory Council and an honorary Ambassador for Trucker Buddy which he faithfully served on until his death.
“Uncle Darrell, as we all called him, was a rock and foundation of Trucker Buddy,” said Trucker Buddy Executive Director Randy Schwartzenburg, “His personal relationship with Gary King and his love for Trucker Buddy helped all of us take the program to the next level. Darrell’s help and advice was a stabilizing factor in the success of Trucker Buddy, one that I and many others depended on.”
His family has asked that donations be sent to either of these two causes.
