SUN PRAIRIE, WI… “Professional Drivers are America’s Unsung Heroes. They are often overlooked and not thanked enough for the touch work they do to keep our country moving.” - Quote by Jerry K. Hackl.
Jerry Hackl started his trucking career as an Owner-Operator in 1975. He liked the challenge of specialized hauling. In 1985 Jerry opened his own brokerage firm and developed a strong customer base. When Jerry founded JK Hackl Transportation Services, Inc. in 1991; he built the company’s foundation on the principles he operated under as an Owner-Operator – hard work, dependability and serving the customer’s needs. This work ethic has served JK Hackl well as many of their original customers and drivers are still with the company.
Today JK Hackl has earned a reputation for being one of the nation’s premier specialized freight carriers. All of the company’s freight is specialized. JK Hackl utilizes a fleet of Trail King XLSP and Transcraft stepdeck and double drop trailers as well as expandables, mechanical detachables, multi-axle, and modular trailers up to 12 axles, to serve their customers. Some of the specialized commodities hauled include industrial machinery, generators, silencers, compressors, turbines and all types of power generating equipment. Customers take notice when one of Hackl’s 379 or 388 Peterbilts pull up to load. The trucks are decked out with plenty of chrome and lights, including custom- built headache racks. They are not the typical “fleet truck” and tend to leave a lasting impression on both customers and drivers.
Most specialized freight tends to be irregular freight and JK Hackl Transportation Services handles mostly long haul loads of up to a thousand miles or more. The primary lanes for the company are between the Midwest and Southwest, particularly Southern California. Hackl does however run all 48 states and Canada. The company is looking for Professional Drivers with at least 3 years of OTR experience and who have some flatbed specialized experience as well. Opportunities are available in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Southern Michigan, as well as Southern California, Dallas and Houston, Texas. To become a member of the Hackl fleet, a driver must have a good MVR and CSA scores and just as importantly, exhibit professionalism, initiative, and good judgment. Hauling specialized freight is a challenging job but it is also personally and financially rewarding. It is personally rewarding to know that you are among an elite group of drivers who can handle the pressure of delivering an oversized load safely and for that, you will receive compensation well above standard OTR rates. Over the years the drivers that JK Hackl has hired have all been experienced professionals when they were started. To the company’s credit, most of them have found a home and career path at JK Hackl. Many Hackl drivers have been with the company for 10 years or more, and a few for as many as 19 years. Longevity is also prevalent in the JK Hackl offices – Safety Director Joey Mathews and Operations Manager Kyle Saley both have 21 years at the company and Controller Bryan Hansen has 20 years. These individuals as well as others put their collective expertise and experience to work everyday ensuring the company runs smoothly. The drivers and employees of JK Hackl are proud of their company and mission statement, “Driven to be the best, driven by the best for 20 years!”
JK Hackl Transportation is a member of the ATA, Wisconsin Motor Truck Association, Transportation Intermediaries Association, and the Specialized Crane & Rigging Association. The company is looking for a few good drivers who are up to the challenge of specialized hauling. “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” – Aristotle
