Kenworth T680 “Advantage” Improves Fuel Economy Up To 5 Percent
Kenworth is taking fuel efficiency to new heights with the introduction of its new Kenworth T680 Advantage.
The Kenworth T680 Advantage – Kenworth’s new, most fuel-efficient truck – features a special factory-installed aerodynamic package along with the optimized powertrain combination of the PACCAR MX-13 engine integrated with the Eaton Fuller AdvantageTM 10-speed automated transmission.
“The T680 Advantage concept we displayed at last year’s Mid-America Trucking Show was a success. The fuel economy benefits resonate with fleets and owner operators looking to save money in fuel costs,” said Brett VanVoorhis, Kenworth on-highway marketing manager. “We started production this month of the Kenworth T680 Advantage, which features factory-installed aerodynamic treatments and component spec’ing recommendations for added fuel savings.”
The aerodynamic treatments include longer side extenders for the T680 76-inch sleeper, lower cab fairing extenders, front air dam, aerodynamic mud flaps, rear fairing without steps coupled with an air deflector, exhaust cut out covers, and optional wheel covers for drive tires.
“The T680 Advantage also includes recommendations to optimally spec the T680 for maximum fuel efficiency,” said VanVoorhis. “When we combine the PACCAR MX-13 engine, Eaton Fuller Advantage transmission, weight-saving 6x2 axle configuration and wide-base tires, drivers may receive up to a 5 percent fuel efficiency enhancement over a standard T680 with the 2013 PACCAR MX-13 engine.”
Other fuel-efficient specs for the T680 Advantage include speed control management that utilizes speed limiters; a tire pressure monitoring system to keep tires at optimum PSI; and the new Kenworth Idle Management System, which eliminates the need to idle in order to run air conditioning.
“When all these items are combined, the Kenworth T680 Advantage becomes a truck that provides a competitive advantage,” said VanVoorhis. “And in an industry where profit margins can be thin, the T680 can give fleets and owner operators the advantage they need to make more money.”
